FAQs ABOUT BOOKING A COMMISSION WITH KATE

How do I commission an artwork?

Download the commission guide above for all the specific details and steps to follow. It is free!

What information do you need from me to start a commission?

Firstly you need to decide on a size so I can order a canvas in for your work. Then I’ll need a image (or a selection) and any additional information relevant. For example, a sky from one image and a landscape from another. Or omissions and additions to the main image.

How long does the process take?

Firstly we lock in a starting month. I will commence your work within this time. From here it only takes a couple of weeks for the actual painting and consult process, assuming the communication is timely. Once completed, payment is payable within 7 days and then postage will be within the next 2 weeks. If you have a date it is needed by please let me know.

    How much do they cost?

Each piece is priced according to size. You can see the current price/size guide in each Commission Booking month item. Alternatively send me a message and I’ll send it through. The deposit is 30% and non refundable.

    Do you visit the location?

No. I work direct from the photograph (unless of course you’d like to fund me a holiday).

Do I get to see progress photos?

Yes, usually right towards the end unless I have any specific questions that need answering. I usually don’t send early images (unless they are on Instagram work in progress shots) because there is a layering process that can make it hard to envisage. There is always a messy middle that I don’t want to put you off with. You’ll also have 2 revisions so we can get it just right. Keep scrolling below to see examples of reference images vs final product. Often there are only tiny tweaks required, sometimes none.

    Do you have a waitlist?

I list monthly booking spots (usually 4 per month) in batches of a couple of months at a time. This allows me to leave space in the year for additional work of my own. You can book into one of these spots via the ART BY KATE tab at the top. If there are none available, send me a message. There is no guarantee there will be spots each month. My suggestion is if have a piece needed in a few months, book in now because I can’t be sure I will have room later in the year.

How many do you paint each year?

As a guide, in the past three years I have painted approximately 40 commissioned works each year. I am well versed in commission paintings.

Can I purchase a gift voucher for a commission?

Yes, they are available via the ART BY KATE tab above. You can pick your desired amount. This does not lock you into a commission spot though. You will need to arrange that separately.

Can I visit your studio to see your work first?

Yes, if you are local or are visiting Wagga, please send me a message and we can make an appointment.

What if I do not like my piece when completed?

During the consult process you need to be very clear with the adjustments needed. Please also be well researched in seeing my previous work. This will give you a guide of what style to expect. If you are expecting something different to my style, then it may be better to choose an alternate artist to work with.

Can you paint people or pets in the paintings?

Yes. If they are tiny shapes there is no additional charge. If there are many or they are large and require detail there will be an additional charge. Portraits, while I can paint them, are not something I do often and so they take extra time and attention. They will hold a likeness to the reference, but will not be identical.
